TITLE: Shadow

 

Required Submissions:

Job Purpose: The purpose of a Shadow is to assist the classroom teacher, by intervening when an identified child’s behavior is effecting the learning environment of other students. The primary purpose of a Shadow is to be a temporary support for the student using proactive measures to modify his or her behaviors so that they can function in the school setting independently.

 

Qualifications:

1. Attend and successfully complete substitute and behavior intervention trainings.

2. Have good oral and written communication skills.

3. Dependable Transportation.

4. Have a Neat and Clean appearance.

5. Be punctual daily.

6. Be a good role model for the student.

7. Have the ability to make good judgment.

8. Have the ability to deal with unpredictable behaviors.

9. Have the physical ability to use CPI trained therapeutic holds, when student is a danger to self or others.

10. Have a Reasonable level of patience and compassion.

11. Be a team player

12. Respect and follow all district policies and procedures.

13. Respect and follow all policies and procedures of your assigned school.

14. Refrain from eating snacks during the day (except during assigned lunch time with your student.)

15. Respect the confidentiality of ALL students and school happenings.

 

Duties: 


1. Arrive to your assigned school on time and stay with your assigned student at ALL times throughout the ENTIRE school day.

 

2. You are to work ONLY with the student to which you have been assigned. There is an expectation you remain observant of other students and your surrounds; and intervene if another student is a danger to self or others.

 

3. You are not to be left alone in the classroom to “watch” the class. You are only responsible for the student you are assigned.

 

4. The classroom-teacher provides in class/school direction and supervision of Shadows

 

5. You are not to tutor or “do a child’s school work”. Your primary responsibility is to monitor behavior, assist the classroom teacher if there is a behavior disruption from your assigned student, and document the child’s behaviors and the interventions attempted.

 

6. Attend all meetings (including IEP meetings) and events that your assigned student will be attending during the school hours.

 

7. Maintain accurate daily documentation of behaviors and specific intervention you have attempted as it relates to child, using the ABC Chart. Documentation should be detailed as to what the child’s inappropriate behavior consist of, what happen before the incident occurred and documenting the interventions attempted by the teacher and the shadow. The journal should remain at your assigned school in a locked confidential place. This journal is the property of Florence 1 Schools, it is to be returned to your case manager or principal designee once you have completed or have been removed from employment.

 

8. Be respectful of and follow all of the guidelines and rules of the school to which you are assigned.

 

9. The shadow will be able to complete behavioral social skills stories with his/her student, designed and provided by the SpEd and/or general education teacher.

 

10. F1S is your employer and your school principal or designee is your immediate supervisor. If you are going to be late or unable to come to work for any reason, you must notify F1S in addition to notifying your immediate supervisor or your building principal know, ASAP.

 

11. If you have problems or concerns first consult the student’s case manager, then the Lead SpEd teacher, then building principal or designee. If this proves ineffective contact the assigned exceptional children’s supervisor.

 

12. Maintain confidentiality

 

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

 

Education: Minimum (60 hours of earned credit) or Workkeys/WIN scores (silver level) Preferred College degree with study in job related area.
